10 Reasons Your Small Business Needs a Small Aircraft

10 Reasons Your Small Business Needs a Small Aircraft10 Reasons Your Small Business Needs a Small AircraftNo, not a business jet. A small airplane. When we think of a business aircraft, we usually think of an ultra-luxurious business jet. But for most small businesses, a jet is a bit overkill. You dont need a Falcon 5X or a Bombardierlong-range jet to get the job done. There are numerous small aircraft that will do the same job for a lot less of an investment. Take the Cirrus SR22, for example.Or a Beechcraft Baron. Or a Pilatus PC-12. Even the venerable Cessna 172. Depending on your specific travel needs (and, lets face it - your desire to look cool) you could definitely save time and money with a small business airplane. But be careful- owning an airplane can result in a slight (er enormous) obsession with aviation. If you have a small business with employees or customers in a variety of locations, a business aircraft might make sense. But it doesnt need to be fancy. A four-seater ai rcraft can still usually get you places quicker than an airliner and is almost always faster than driving. And if you do want to make an impression with your airplane, there are a number of small airplanes that are simple and practical without sacrificing comfort and luxury. Do you think you need a business aircraft? Here are a few reasons you might. 01Make It to Business Meetings QuickerGetty Images/MGPIf youve ever had the desire to learn how to fly, and you own or manage a business, then maybe its time to join those two parts of your life together. You can start by purchasing a business aircraft and hiring a pilot who is also a flight instructor. This can be a win-win for everyone. You can kill two birds with one stone by taking flight lessons while also working efficiently at your day job. By combining flight lessons with business trips, you wont have to take additional time off to learn how to fly at night or on weekends, and youll be doing it in your own aircraft, which saves mon ey on flight training in general. You can do it gradually, by riding up front during business trips and learning a thing or two here or there, or you can jump in and study hard and fly a lot and become a pilot relatively quickly so that you can fly yourself places without having to schedule or pay for the flight crew.Being the pilot can have advantages and disadvantages, of course. As the pilot in command, your level of responsibility goes up dramatically and youll no longer be able to just sit back and relax in the cabin.Youll be the one making decisions about flight planning, weather, and the flying of the airplane instead of working on your computer while you ride along. On the other hand, you may find that you enjoy having even more control over your flight schedule, and you might like being the one to make the go or no-go decision. Often times, those who are afraid of flying are more comfortable when theyre at the controls because they know whats happening and theyre in charge of the situation.Whether you become the pilot of your own airplane or just sit in the back and relax, a small business aircraft will save you loads of time and energy. Buying an aircraft for business purposes is a decision that most people do not regret.Interested in becoming your own personal pilot? If youre interested in learning to become a pilot, and you have a small business that would benefit from operating a small aircraft, then the decision should be an easy one. Buy an airplane and hire a flight instructor to fly you around and teach you to fly at the same time. You wont regret it.Operating a business aircraft can save time, and can improve your bottom line. And there are tax benefits, too. But aircraft ownership isnt without its challenges. Airplanes come at a high price tag, and require a sharp degree of attention and focus on the costs and benefits of owning an airplane to make it worth it. A comprehensive financial analysis can tell you if aircraft ownership is right for y our business.

How to Make a Good First Impression on New Co-Workers

How to Make a Good First Impression on New Co-WorkersHow to Make a Good First Impression on New Co-WorkersYou know what they say about first impressions - they linger. So as you begin a new job, it makes sense to consider the best ways to impress your co-workers and form a good connection with them early on. High on the list dressing the part. Youll want to choose an outfit thats carefully calibrated to match the formality level youve observed from staffers during your interviews at the company. When in doubt, wear an outfit similar to the ones you wore to interviews - and opt for more formal, not less. Theres more to making a good impression than your clothes. Youll want to be yourself, but also embrace that old maxim about faking it til you make it. That is, even if youre feeling some nerves, carry yourself with confidence. Here are six ways to make a good impression on your new co-workers- so your relationship can get off to a strong start. Arrive on Time and Ready to Work G enerally, your new boss or human resources contact will let you know when to arrive at the amtsstube for your first day along with where to go. You may need to tackle paperwork before you can really get started sometimes, your first day will be devoted to orientation. If the company hasnt reached out with details, you can email your manager to ask when you should arrive and where to go. Be prompt aim to arrive early, since being tardy on your first day sends a worrisome note. Be sure to bring all paperwork, as requested, as well as a writing implement and notebook, so youre prepared to take notes as you sit in on meetings and get information from HR. Consider Asking for a Tour Spot someone who seems extra friendly? If your manager or a human resources person hasnt already shown you around the office space, ask a co-worker if they have time to give you a quick tour. Theres nothing more awkward than not knowing where the bathroom is, and it can be helpful to know meeting room loca tions and where to stock up on supplies. Get yourself situated early on, so you can feel confident heading to-and-from meetings and going about your day. Master the First Meet Make eye contact as you shake hands with new co-workers. Smile - its best to have a confident, upbeat attitude. If you have a chance, and if youre bad with names or faces, jot down peoples names, job titles or responsibilities, and other details in that notebook you brought. That way, you wont wind up re-introducing yourself to people again and again. People appreciate it when you remember them. As much as possible, introduce yourself to people. If youre standing near someone by the coffee maker or passing in the hallway, you can smile, and say, Hi, todays my first day My name is Albert, and Ill be working with the XYZ team. What do you work on? Basically, youll want to embrace the most outgoing parts of your personality. Introverts, follow these strategies when you start a new job. Have an Intro Speec h Prepped As you meet people one-on-one, or potentially at a team-wide meeting or welcome lunch, there may be a moment where youre expected to say a few words about yourself and your background. It can help to prepare a bit. You likely dont have to give a polished speech unless youre at high management or executive level, but its better not to fumble or blush your way through your elevator pitch about yourself. You can introduce yourself by talking about your work background and a few personal details and then wrap up by saying how excited you are to work at the new company. Heres an example Hi, everyone. So great to meet you all Just a little bit of information on me, for folks who didnt sit in on interviews Ive worked at ABC Company for the past four years, and prior to that I was with XYZ company. In both roles, I was responsible for project managing big launches. I live in Evanston, with a giant dog (ask me for pictures later) and my husband. Im really thrilled to be joining th e team here, and cant wait to get to know everyone here and work together closely Be Engaged and Professional Your first days are a good time to keep your cell phone on silent, avoid personal calls, and stay away from your personal email or recreational online browsing. You want to see attentive and focused on work. Sometimes that can be hard on the first day or two- you might not actually have work to do. See if you can spend time browsing the companys website. Ask if there are any meetings you can sit in on or simple projects you can start on. You may find it tempting in these early days to suggest ways the company could operate better. Ideas are good, but sharing improvement strategies in early days, or acting like a know-it-all, can be off-putting. Instead of making suggestions, consider asking why things are done the way they are. End on a Good Note Dont be the first to leave the office. Take advantage of quiet moments at the end of your day to write down impressions, questions, ideas for projects, etc. Want to prep more? Here are even more ideas for how to get ready for a super successful first day at a new job.

Jackass creator Jeff Tremaine on success It was baffling to me

Jackass creator Jeff Tremaine on success It was baffling to meJackass creator Jeff Tremaine on success It was baffling to meJeff Tremaine is a name you know if you like pranks. He was the creator of the skating culture magazine Big Brother back in the 90s, which took its stunts and pranks to the extreme in each issue. Most of my magazine career was spent sitting in front of a computer for 12 plus hours a day, Tremaine says. But he went outside he parlayed the magazines work into one of MTVs most successful series of all time, Jackass. On top of Jackass, Jeff is also the mastermind behind other hit shows including Rob Big, Nitro Circus and Ridiculouness, as well as directing films and shows for ESPN and WWE. This entire career was spawned from his friends thought were hilarious, but had no idea that millions others would follow suit.pullquote The more experience that I have, the more I get to say buzz off to any naysayers. /pullquote The documentary about his beginnings in publishing, DUMB The Story of Big Brother Magazine, just premiered this month. The film discusses the magazine itself and how it launched the careers of its stars including Johnny Knoxville and Bam Margera - and also shed a light on skater culture. I spoke with Jeff recently to discuss all of this, including the surprise success of Jackass, how age deflects naysayers, and how to avoid the word no in any career path. Ladders Were you surprised about the success of Jackass, not only with the show but the careers of its stars and how it ultimately made them hauptrichtung?Tremaine Absolutely. It was shocking to us, even when back in the Big Brother days when we put out a video and people liked it. We were really doing it for ourselves, our little tight-knit group of friends to laugh at. When Jackass came out, and anyone wanted to watch it, it was baffling to me. I mean, it was my friends bare ass running down the middle of the street. I pinch myself every day for it that other people liked it it was always a surprise to us. Has there been a particular part of your career that you have a strong sense of pride about it? Big Brother magazine itself and what this movie talks about the opportunity was given to me to have absolute creative freedom. To make whatever magazine I wanted to make. And once I got a taste of that freedom, I could never go back. If it didnt lead to Jackass, I dont know what I wouldve done. If the magazine folded, it wouldve been impossible to go back. It was a rare opportunity at a young age to get complete freedom to do whatever we wanted to do. That was an absolute blessing and I have tried to make the most of that in my life since then. You have created and produced everything from sports to crazy antics and even a safety video for American Airlines. How do you measure your success as it comes to you? That is a good question How do I measure success? I put everything I am doing into each project, and sometimes they come out better than others for sure. I know when I feel good about what we did, and shoot, I dont know how to give you a good answer to that. There are two versions of success the ones that other people like and the one that you know you like. Basically, I like everything that I do. And I keep at it until I do. How have you dealt with the naysayers in your life, both good and bad?Well, the longer my career goes, the more experience that I have, the more I get to say buzz off to any naysayers. If your gut tells you its right, chances are that it is (at least to you) and to have the confidence to stand up for your work. Ive tried to learn how to do that over time. What is your biggest tip for success regarding longevity and prosperity in any career medium? Ive never let the word no stop me. Dont let one little roadblock stop you. Find a way around, there is always a way around that. So many people are just willing to hit that roadblock and stop, and you cant do that. You got to find a way around the word no.
